We at The State and Mind want to ensure that individuals feel validated intheir experience and find hope in the process. Our journey together often begins by establishing boundaries and creating asafe a nurturing environment that is conducive to the development ofinterpersonal skills, sharing of emotions and experiences, and having theirneeds met by their partner in a healthy manner.

For our sessions to be effective individuals must be committed to the process. Commitment means that members willingly attend sessions, while beinghonest, open to trying new things, and practicing new skills, learned between sessions. In terms of couples counseling commitment to counseling also requires that members enter the process with the goal of reconciliation, and not of divorce.

The courageous decision to attend through counseling can be a scary and an overwhelming experience. We consider it an honour to have a client allow us to join them during a difficult moment in their journey through life. Our approach is collaborative and consists of respecting each other’s uniquehistory, personality, cultural characteristics & strengths. For us, themost important aspect is the relationship between the client & counselor/advocate. We try our best to make sure that thecounselor / advocate is respectful, compassionate towards the client. These qualities create a safe and nurturing environmentwhere the client may have the opportunity to develop increased self-awareness, and deeper connection with all aspects of his or her life.
